Aerobic Septic System Service in Conyers, GA

Septic Tank Service Conyers works on aerobic septic systems in Conyers, Lithonia, Stockbridge, and nearby areas: routine maintenance visits, repairs to aerators and pumps, chlorinator service, control panel and alarm faults, and new installs. If an air compressor runs next to your tank and there are sprinkler heads out in the yard, you are in the right place.

This kind of system is not a tank you can simply forget about. Its moving parts run around the clock, its disinfection stage needs regular refills, and many states make a maintenance agreement a legal requirement, not an optional extra.

How an Aerobic System Differs

A standard septic tank works anaerobically, with no oxygen at all. Aerobic units add it: a compressor runs nonstop, pumping air into a chamber so oxygen-loving bacteria break down waste much more completely and far more quickly.

Two things follow. First, the treated water can be spread across less ground, usually by spray heads on the lawn in place of buried trenches, so aerobic systems get chosen where a lot is too small or the soil too poor for a standard field. Second, because it is sprayed on top of the ground, it is normally disinfected beforehand, most often with chlorine.

The catch is that it relies on machines and supplies. A standard tank has no working parts and just does its job. When the compressor on an aerobic system fails, treatment stops within days.

Faults

What Goes Wrong

01

Compressor Breakdown

The compressor never stops running, which makes it the part most likely to give out. When it quits, the aerobic bacteria die within days. Do not leave a compressor that has fallen silent until next month.

02

Chlorinator Left Empty

When the chlorine tube runs dry, untreated wastewater is sprayed over the yard. It is the compliance problem we see most, and fully avoidable. Pool chlorine is a different product and does not belong there.

03

Built-Up Sludge

Aerobic units still collect solids and need pumping now and then. Skip it, and solids reach the pump tank and get pushed out the spray heads.

04

Spray Head Trouble

Heads clog, snap under the mower, or vanish under growing grass. Wastewater then puddles in a single spot rather than spreading.

05

Pump and Float Faults

The pump sending treated water to the spray field can burn out, and floats can stick. The alarm is meant to warn you before an overflow.

06

Alarm Silenced

The alarm points to a particular fault: high water, a stopped compressor, or a pump issue. Turning it off and carrying on with normal water use is how a fixable problem turns into a failed system.

Maintenance Visit

What a Routine Visit Covers

1

Compressor Test

Making sure the compressor is running and pushing the air it should, not just that it is turned on.

2

Aeration Chamber

Checked for solids carryover and built-up sludge, which will reach the spray heads in time if left alone.

3

Chlorinator

Checked and refilled with wastewater tablets. Once the tube is empty, untreated water is sprayed onto the lawn.

4

Power and Control Panel

The alarm circuit, control panel, pump, and floats are all tested, since an alarm only helps if it is still working.

5

Spray Heads and Paperwork

Heads are checked for clogs, damage, and proper coverage. The results are filed as the permit requires.

Repairs

Repairs We Handle

Aerobic systems tend to break at their moving parts, not their tanks. Below are the pieces we service and replace.

01

Compressors and Air Lines

Compressor replacement or rebuild, plus servicing of diffusers and air lines, which keep the aerobic process up and running.

02

Discharge Pump

We replace the pump that carries treated water out to the spray area after it burns out.

03

Float, Panel, and Alarm Fixes

Fixes for float switches, control panels, and alarm circuits. Once an alarm fails, the system has no way left to warn you.

04

Chlorinator

We repair or replace the chlorinator itself, not only refill the tablets.

05

Spray Heads and Tank Repairs

New spray heads and line fixes, along with work on tanks and lids, just like the septic system repair a standard system needs.

Do you need a service agreement? We will check what your permit asks for, how often someone must visit, and what has to be reported. Contact Us

Aerobic units need pumping too, and which chambers get pumped matters. Draining every chamber at once upsets the bacteria that do the actual work; see septic tank pumping.

FAQ

Common Questions

How can I tell whether my system is aerobic?

Check for an air compressor humming near the tank. Other clues are an alarm on a control box and lawn sprinkler heads that are not part of your irrigation. Aerobic units also have several lids, not just one or two.

How long will an aerobic compressor last?

It never stops running, so it wears out. How long it lasts depends on the unit and the conditions. If it sounds much louder or quieter than normal, have it checked before it quits.

Which chlorine tablets should I buy?

Tablets meant for wastewater treatment, never pool chlorine. The chemistry differs, and the wrong one can damage parts and will fail to disinfect properly.

If my system runs fine, can I drop the maintenance agreement?

Not if the agreement is a condition of your permit. Compliance and a working system are two separate things. We can confirm what your area requires.

Why is the ground soggy around my spray heads?

Most often a clogged or broken spray head sending the flow to a single spot, or a pump that stays on too long. Sometimes the system is putting out more water than the field can absorb.

Is an aerobic system an upgrade over a standard septic system?

It cleans wastewater more fully, so it is allowed on lots where a standard system cannot cope. It also brings moving parts, supplies, and upkeep duties a standard system avoids. Whether it is better comes down to the site.

Straight Talk

Things Worth Knowing Up Front

Owning one of these is a long-term commitment. Here is what people often are not told at install.

✕

The Agreement Is Not Optional

If your permit includes the maintenance agreement, compliance has nothing to do with whether the system runs. An unserviced system can put an owner out of compliance even while it seems fine.

✕

Pool Chlorine Is Different

Wastewater tablets are a separate chemistry; the wrong product may harm parts and fail to disinfect properly.

✕

It Needs Regular Upkeep

A standard tank can mostly be left alone between pumpings. An aerobic unit has supplies, moving parts, and reporting duties that never take a break.

✕

The Site Decides What Is Best

Aerobic is not an upgrade by default. It treats wastewater more fully, so it is allowed where standard systems will not work, but it brings ongoing duties that a standard system never has.

Compliance

Maintenance Agreements

Several states require aerobic systems to be covered by a maintenance agreement, with inspections on a fixed schedule and the results sent to the permitting authority. It is a condition of the permit, not an add-on we sell you, and a neglected system can leave the owner out of compliance.

The rules vary from one state and county to the next. We can check what applies to your property, including how often visits must happen and what needs reporting.

Unsure whether an agreement covers you? We can look up what your permit calls for.
